This post looks at pay for project managers/project directors/junior archaeologists/project supervisor (there are about a dozen different names for this position but it is really middle management e.g. someone who is in charge of excavations or the lab on projects but is not the very top person like the company owner or senior management). As mentioned before that data is gather from job postings and the results were, in $ per hr.-
Like with crew chiefs and technicians project managers has managed to regain some of the ground lost last year. The average starting pay is now around $19.68 ($41,000 annual) and the high average is about $25 per hr. ($52,000 annual) Though there are regional differences and outliers as low as $12 per hr ($25,000 annual) to as high as $48 ($ 100,000 annual). Though the average archaeologists who is middle management in CRM is probably looking at making around $45,000 annually. Not a bad chunk of change but as will be shown in the next post probably not good for the qualifications they have.
What can not be stressed enough is that there are regional differences and differences between individual employers, as shown by the range of pay 25k-100k so take these numbers as rough guides. Also, the range of $12 per hr. job was $12-22 and the $48 per hr was $24-48 so most likely no one actually made anything close to those extremes.

[...] This is the third part (part 1 on field tech pay can be found here, part 2 here) of the yearly review of how much archaeologists make in the US (again, apologies to Canada, not enough data to include you). This post deals with the position of project manager, aka project office, aka Principle Investigator, aka manager, etc (basically, your middle management person, they run most crews and projects but not the top management). You can see past data for them here. [...]
