New Use of Blogs

Posted on November 4, 2011

Stephen H. Lekson, from the Museum of Natural History at the University of Colorado, has started a new blog, The Southwest in the World. It is a pretty cool concept. He is writing a book putting up rough chapters up as blog posts.

I have heard of something similar being done before for a book but not in archaeology. The feedback on the chapters have been quite interesting from lively debates about points presented to some that seem a bit odd. Odd comments are what you get when you put anything up on the internet. For the most part, the comments are quite good.

It almost makes me believe that this could work for a peer review process of journals, …………. almost. I am not sure how willing people are to peer review something without being asked. That being said I think it could be a good way to pre-peer review work. A sort of polishing up stage for articles, reports, and books, as shown in Steve’s blog. If anyone wants to take that idea and run with it please do.
