This just came over the NMAC listserve
Lew Binford passed away on Monday at his home in Kirksville, Mo. He was 79 years old and leaves behind a legacy that will be hard to match in Anthropology.
Apparently wikipedia was quick on this too (posting his death quite early, less then 24hrs after) NOTE Wikepedia had his birth year as 1930 and 1931. Considering the message I received has his age as 79 I have gone with the 1931 birth year most others have chosen 1930( don’t always trust what’s on wikipedia)- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_Binford

Wikipedia is not a news source. It merely echoes what appears elsewhere. The death of living persons has been hoaxed on Wikipedia in the past. As of this moment (Wed. April 12, 2011, 06:26 UTC) the death of Lewis Binford is unverified and there is no reliable citation to that effect.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I mention wikipedia because he had not been dead for 24 hrs and already wikipedia had his death. The comment is more about the speed of wikipedia then a definitive source of his death.
