Crazy update on this. The hoax has been around so long that people have actually conducted research on it. There is an article published a couple of years ago that looked at who believes this sort of story:

This came in an email a few days back and is an excellent example of how false news stories can spread across the internet. Some of the images of “Giant” skeletons were actually put together as part of a Photoshop (PS) competition for people to show off their PS skills. http://www.worth1000.com/contests/447/archaeological-anomalies-2. Here is the description of that competition:
‘You are to create an archaeological hoax. Your job is to show a picture of an archaeological discovery that looks so real, had it not appeared at Worth1000, people might have done a double take.’

Basically, someone found these photos on the internet and then added in some biblical references, a map with a dot on it, and a small back story about archaeologists and boom- they had a viral story.

Not Original Fake News
Snopes has found that this is not even an original fake news story. Originally it involved a find in Saudi Arabia. It appears that someone has ripped it off and changed it to Greece. http://www.snopes.com/photos/odd/giantman.asp
